Who we are                                                                     

The Pembroke Dock Festival Group, is a small group of people who live locally and organise the Midsummer Festival and the Winter Lantern Parade in Pembroke Dock. We work closely with Llanion Communities First, Pembroke Dock Town Council, sponsors, volunteers and other local organisations.

The members of the Festival Group are commited to bringing these festivals to Pembroke Dock, for the enjoyment of the whole community. Our first festival was in 2006 and since then has gone from strength to strength.

History

The Pembroke Dock Festival Group was supported in its development from an informal group of people with the seed of an idea (to support the regeneration of Pembroke Dock through culture and the arts) to a fully constituted voluntary organisation by the Llanion Communities First Team and Partnership.

The Summer of 2006 saw the first week-long Pembroke Dock Midsummer Festival as the fruit of that capacity building work. In 2006 part of the money raised by the Festival Group helped to fund 19 workshops for a wide range of people in the community ranging from adults of all ages, who undertook training around different aspects of event management,

to children and young people who made banners, sculptures and joined with music workshops.

During the festival the funding supported;

• 17 diverse events
• 2 large events attracting 500 people each
• 10,000 brochures distributed promoting Pembroke Dock
• 200 volunteers directly involved
• 2000 community beneficiaries
• Over £11,000 in funding attracted into Pembroke Dock.

The Pembroke Dock Midsummer Festival has been chosen as the representative image at the launch of the “National Strategic Framework for Community Development” in Wales.
